Past NCAA wrestling champs Burroughs, Varner, Gomez grab gold at 2011 Pan Ams

Jordan Burroughs, Mike Varner and Franklin Gomez — all NCAA Division I wrestling champs — won gold medals in freestyle competition in the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico Monday.

Burroughs, the only real two-time NCAA titlewinner for that College of Nebraska (2010, 2011), defeated Yunierki Blanco of Cuba 3-2, 3-2 within the finals at 74 kg. In September, in the in Istanbul, Poultry.

Varner, two times an NCAA champion at Iowa Condition (2009, 2010), beat Venezuela’s Luis Vivenes 6-, 2- within the 96 kg finals.

Gomez, the 133-pound champion for Michigan Condition in the 2009 NCAAs, defeated Guillermo Torres of Mexico 4-, 6- to win the 60 kg gold medal for his native Puerto Rico. .
